Stages: Ôsaka (KIX) – Yoshino – Ise – Shingu – Yunomine-Onsen – Ryujin-Onsen – Koya-san – Kishiwada – Ôsaka (KIX)

Day 1 – Ôsaka – Yoshino

 

  • You are welcomed at Ôsaka airport by your English-speaking tour guide (or in Ôsaka/Kyoto if you are already there)
  • Journey to Yoshino, the mountain with 30,000 blossoming cherry trees
  • Evening meal and overnight stay at a traditional guest house/hotel

Day 2 – Yoshino

 

  • Exploration on foot of Yoshino and the surrounding area, as far as the Kinpu Shrine
  • Evening meal and overnight stay at the same location as the previous day

Day 3 – Yoshino – Ise

 

  • Journey from Yoshino to Ise on the Shima peninsula where the largest Shinto centre in the whole of Japan is located
  • Visit to the Outer Shrine/surrounding shrines close to the city centre
  • Evening meal and overnight stay at a traditional guest house/hotel

Day 4 – The Shima peninsula

 

  • Visit to the Inner Shrine and other sacred sites
  • Journey to Meoto Iwa, the Married Couple Rocks
  • Visit to Edo Wonderland, a historical theme park showcasing the Edo period
  • Evening meal and overnight stay at the same location as the previous day

Day 5 – Ise – Kumano (Shingu)

 

  • Journey from Ise to Shingu at the foot of the sacred Kumano-Sanzan mountain range
  • Visit to the 1st shrine, Hayatama-Taisha
  • Evening meal and overnight stay at a traditional guest house/hotel

Day 6 – Shingu – Cape Shiono – Shingu

 

  • Journey from Shingu to Cape Shiono
  • Stroll around the cape as far as the island of Oshima
  • On the return journey, visit to the 2nd sacred shrine, Nachi-Taisha
  • Evening meal and overnight stay at the same location as the previous day

Day 7 – Shingu – Hongu-Taisha – Yunomine Onsen

 

  • Journey from Shingu to the 3rd sacred shrine, Hongu-Taisha
  • Journey to the thermal spa village of Yunomine Onsen
  • Relaxation in the soothing waters
  • Evening meal and overnight stay at a traditional guest house/hotel

Day 8 – Yunomine Onsen – Ryujin Onsen

 

  • Journey to the village of Ryujin Onsen via Tanabe
  • This village is well known for the quality of its mineral water which has a soothing effect on the skin
  • Relaxation in the hot springs
  • Evening meal and overnight stay at a traditional guest house/hotel

Day 9 – Ryujin Onsen – Koya-san

 

  • Journey from Ryujin Onsen to the sacred Koya-san mountain
  • Visit to the most beautiful temples of this sacred Buddhist site
  • Evening meal and overnight stay at a traditional guest house/hotel

Day 10 – Koya-san

 

  • Trek along the Nyonin-do (women’s trail)
  • Return to Koya-san and visit to Okuno-in, an immense cemetery with almost 200,000 gravestones
  • Evening meal and overnight stay at the same location as the previous day

Days 11 & 12 – Koya-san – Kishiwada – Ôsaka (KIX)

 

  • Journey from Koya-san to Kishiwada
  • Visit to the castle, historical jewel of this city south of Ôsaka
  • Evening meal at a traditional sushi restaurant in the middle of a zen garden
  • Overnight stay at an hotel in center of Kishiwada
  • Journey to the airport
  • Return flight (not included in the tour)
